Research & Development

Our dedicated Research & Development team continuously works to enhance the properties of our material blends to meet ever increasing performance criteria. Thickness of bags does not necessarily determine the overall strength or performance and use of high performance materials allows us to achieve specific performance characteristics. The high performance materials we use are a combination of Bimodal HDPE, Metallocene and hexane-octane copolymers; these polymers are much stronger than the typical LLDPE, LDPE & HDPE materials commonly used in manufacturing t-shirt and other bags. Each material blend is specially formulated to provide:

  • Robust operational stability
  • Improved tear properties in machine and transverse direction
  • Superior tensile strength for toughness
  • Improved puncture resistance
  • Superior film surface performance and printability
  • Optimum sealing performance over a wide range of temperatures
  • Excellent optical properties

Our Research & Development department works to develop blends of resins to achieve the desired mechanical and physical properties of colour, opacity, printability, seal strength, and puncture resistance. We have optimized bag material composition for a number of leading UK retailers enabling us to reduce the bag thickness whilst maintaining or improving the carrier bag performance. There are number of environmental benefits for using packaging product with lower thickness for  example lower carbon footprint due to efficiencies in material consumed and lower freight cost per bag. It also means less materials to be disposed off or recycled when their original job is done.

The Research & Development department at Euro SME collaborates with clients on development and manufacturing projects which enables us to create a strategic relationship, in order to innovate, reduce cost and improve product performance, simultaneously.
